Centerpiece Film HOMEWRECKER TUE 30, 7:15 pm Regency Agoura Hills 8, Theater 5

HOMEWRECKER
USA, 88 MIN, WEST COAST PREMIERE
Director: Brad Barnes, Todd Barnes
Producer: Brad Barnes, Todd Barnes
Writer: Brad Barnes, Todd Barnes, Sophie Goodhart
Cast: Anslem Richardson, Ana Reeder, Stephen Rannazzisi, Cesar De
Leon, Mary Beth Peil,
Michelle Krusiec
Mike (Anslem Richardson) is a locksmith. He's also a prisoner on work
release, but you
wouldn't know it. He's just trying to focus on his house calls and
reconcile with his
ex-girlfriend-until Margo (Ana Reeder) hijacks his day. A live-wire
kook, who's certain
her boyfriend is cheating on her, Margo bulldozes Mike into spying on
the alleged
cad. The result: an all-day adventure with a (seemingly) stolen
vehicle, a visit to an
unlikely drug dealer, and a low blood-sugar attack. Potential trouble
follows these
two around-but maybe something good will come of it?
Homewrecker is an adventure that has nothing to do with car chases or
explosions
but is nail-biting nonetheless. Mike is doing what he can to make the
best of a bad
situation. Just when he thinks he's got things under control, Margo throws him
another curve ball and they're off in fresh direction. Her beguiling charm and
damsel in distress cajoling keep him caught up in her spell when what
he really
needs to do is get the van back intact to Elite Lock and Key.
It's one of those days in New York that starts out like any other, but
turns into an
unforgettable experience shared by two people joined by happenstance and a
yearning to be loved. Homewreckeris imbued with wry humor offering its audi-
ence moments that make you shake your head and wonder about the oddness of
humanity.
Directors (and brothers) Todd and Brad Barnes infuse screwball
sensibility into their version of the romantic come-
dy. The chemistry between the leads is crucial: Ana Reeder revels in
her free spirited, no-boundaries role and
keeps Margo likeable; Anslem Richardson is perfect as her straight
man. Full of jaunty dialogue and subtle charm,
Homewreckeris an irresistible and impressive debut feature.

THE ROCK 'n’ ROLL DREAMS OF DUNCAN CHRISTOPHER MON 29, 9:15 pm, Founders Hall

THE ROCK 'n’ ROLL DREAMS OF DUNCAN CHRISTOPHER
USA, 94 MIN, WORLD PREMIERE
Director: Justin Monroe
Producer: Jack Roberts, Justin Monroe, Gillian Fritzsche, Ryan Fritzsche,
Writer: Jack Roberts
Cast: Jack Roberts, Marshall Bell, Peter Bedgood, Lizz Carter
Duncan Christopher is an ordinary guy that grew up the wealthy son of
a suicidal rock star in
a reclusive compound in Collinsville, Oklahoma. He’s just what a young
man ought to be: mild-
mannered, awkward, naïve, and whole-heartedly aimless. He feels
destined to follow his late
father’s footsteps to rock greatness. Duncan has an obstacle like all
the best heroes of
Dungeons and Dragons, which he plays fervently, he’s not that good.
After an introspective fall at his 30th birthday party – 25th in a row
at the skating rink – Duncan
moves to Tulsa to really pursue his father’s legendary craft. He moves
in with a jaded uncle and
incorporates the help of his ever scheming, almost charming cousin to
get a big gig. It is a city-
wide karaoke competition. The winner gets to meet with a Chinese
record label in Nashville.
A surprise to all, Duncan begins to work through dormant grief while
singing time honored
karaoke favorites like Feel Like Makin’ Love, Broken Wings, and Kiss
Me. Duncan begins to deal
with his father’s suicide and the audience loves his openness. He
advances through four rounds
of karaoke and meets his biggest fear – Simply Irresistible – a
karaoke champion that represents
all Duncan will have to let go of to keep his soul.

Closing Night Film

THE GOOD HEART

ICELAND/FRANCE/DENMARK/GERMANY, 95 MINUTES, LA PREMIERE

Director: Dagur Kari

Producer: Skuli Fr. Malmquist, Thor Sigurjonsson

Writer: Dagur Kari

Cast: Brian Cox, Paul Dano, Damian Young, Stephanie Szostak, Clark Middleton
Jacques (Brian Cox) is the crusty, misanthropic owner of a grungy dive
located on an even grimier
back street in New York. An epic chain smoker, he knows he has only a
short time left. In the hos-
pital after his fifth coronary, he meets the ultra-meek Lucas (Paul
Dano), a homeless kid who has
pretty much given up on life. Determined to keep his bar going,
Jacques takes Lucas under his
wing and schools him in the decidedly arcane rules he lives by.
Unfortunately for Lucas, Jacques's preferred pedagogical method
consists of yelling, ranting and
throwing stuff. Some of his inviolable rules include no new customers,
no fraternizing with cus-
tomers and, most importantly, no women. Their friendship is put to the
test when the lost and dis-
traught April (Isild Le Besco) shows up at the bar and Lucas insists
they help her out.

DO ELEPHANTS PRAY?

UNITED KINDOM, 106 MIN, WORLD PREMIERE

Director: Paul Hills

Producer: Paul Hills, Jonnie Hurn

Writer: Jonnie Hurn

Cast: Jonnie Hurn, Julie Dray, Marc Warren, Rosie Feliner, Grace
Vallorani, John Last

Callum Cutter (Jonnie Hurn), fastidious 30something head of his own
failing Advertising

company who burdens his employees with his increasingly erratic ways,
struggles to find

meaning in the soulless world he is shackled as he faces the challenge
of selling the

unsellable product. His only solace is his bi-weekly Tai Chi Class and
the coffee & cigarettes

he is addicted to. His life needs to change and it does so in the
shape of Malika (Julie Dray)

a stunning free-spirited French woman unbound by the conventions or
responsibilities of

the world who enchantingly appears without warning and immediately
starts to question

everything he believes in and relies upon. Through her unique blend of
psychology and

seduction she persuades him to abandon his make-or-break advertising
campaign for a

few soul-searching days roughing it in a forest in her native France.
Whilst his employees,

lead by the boisterous Marrlen (Marc Warren) and the slovenly Jode
(John Last), mutiny at

his company the normally immaculate Callum is subjected to a series of
increasingly

demoralising trials that tease his mind and taunt his perception of
the world, culminating

in an intense moment of catharsis at the ominously named “Lake of No
Return” revealing

to Callum not only the hidden meaning to his unfulfilled life but also
the perfect way to

sell the unsellable product. “Do Elephants Pray?” is an ethereal drama
that baits the spirit

and demands answers toquestions that may or may not exist.

THE DISPENSABLES

THE DISPENSABLES

GERMANY, 110 MIN, USA PREMIERE
Director: Andreas Arnstedt
Producer: Andreas Arnstedt
Writer: Andreas Arnstedt
Cast: Andre Hennicke, Steffi Kuhnert, Mathieu Carriere, Oskar Boekelmann
Childhood days are history for 10-year-old Jakob. His father Juergen and mother Silke are out
of work and have long since surrendered to their alcohol problems. Violence and heated argu-
ments alternate in the family with tender moments. Grandma Rosemarie is the only one who
seems to give the family’s chaotic life a certain grounding. And then there’s Hannah, Jakob’s
girlfriend from a well-to-do family, who remains loyal to Jakob despite her parent’s lack of
understanding and the mobbing from her fellow pupils.
When Jakob’s mother has to go to the hospital after the latest bust-up, his father completely
loses control. A catastrophe is in the cards with Jakob doing everything to preserve the illusion
of a normal family life. After all, there’s one thing he’s certain about: if the family falls apart, he
will have to go into a home and that’s something he wants to avoid at all costs. Quite unex-
pectedly, help and understanding is forthcoming from his girlfriend Hannah who turns out to
be a very pragmatic companion.
A modern Berlin backyard ballad in the tradition of the German auteur film: drastic, bizarre and
close to the reality of the reunited Germany.

THE BEGINNER

USA, 94 MIN, WORLD PREMIERE

Director: Benjamin Coccio

Producer: Benjamin Coccio

Writer: Benjamin Coccio

Cast: Cal Robertson, Sarah Vannel, Ana Kayne, Damien Langan

Carter is a 21 year old middle-class white boy who is spinning his
wheels in his parent's house.

Everyone around him has graduated from college, grown up and moved on.
After a personal revela-

tion, he demands his parents give him his unused college fund so that
he can move out and live off of

it. His parents acquiesce. Carter has no ambition or plan, and he soon
becomes addicted to absolute

personal freedom. Eventually, even the money he has been living off
becomes too much of an attach-

ment and he tries to blow it all at a casino. He fails at that and
makes a mint at a Roulette table. The

next morning he leaves the bread with his sleeping friend in their
hotel room and heads off alone. He

heads further west and finds himself alone in the world. He falls in
with a younger runaway, Judith, a

teenager from France who ditched her folks while on a family vacation.
Carter stays with her until his

conscience gets the better of him. He tries to set her straight and
then heads home to make things

right with his family.

THE BE ALL AND END ALL

THE BE ALL AND END ALL
UNITED KINGDOM, 93 MIN, WORLD PREMIERE

Director: Bruce Webb
Producer: Bruce Webb,
Writer: Steve Lewis, Tony Owen
Cast: Eugene Byrne, Josh Bolt,  Connor McIntyre, Liza Tarbuck
Fifteen year olds Robbie and Ziggy think they'll be best friends forever but when Robbie collapses on
holiday and is diagnosed with a fatal heart condition, forever suddenly seems a lot shorter. Lying in
the children's ward, Robbie only has one thing on his mind: he doesn't want to die a virgin - and the
only one who can help him achieve his goal is his best friend.
Robbie pleads with Ziggy to find a way to fulfil his wish, but Ziggy has other things to contend with.
He's just discovered his mother has been lying to him and his absent father may not be as far away
as he thought.
Ziggy's flawed plan of action gets him beaten up by the outraged girls at school, followed by a failed
visit to the local massage parlour where he has to rescue Robbie from a raid by the authorities.
Frustrated in their efforts, the boys argue and fall out. Feeling alone and hard-done by, an argument
with his mother sends Ziggy off on a futile search for his father.
With nobody to turn to but each other the boys make up and renew their efforts. Success still seems
a long way off when Ziggy is robbed by a pimp and then arrested by the police for soliciting, but
with the unwitting help of Robbie's father and the kindly ward nurse Tina, Ziggy hatches a plan that may
just succeed, but not in a way either of them expects.

Loneliest Road In America

for the website:
www.loneliestroadinamerica.com

Jamie is disillusioned with a dead-end job and a suffocating
relationship with his girlfriend. On a
quest for enlightenment, he takes a road trip from Denver to LA with
friends Matt and Ashley.
Along highway 50 in Nevada – The Loneliest Road in America – they
encounter the ravages of
the mining industry that has left skeletons of once-prosperous towns
in its wake. Against this
backdrop, Jamie confronts the recognition that freedom and
exploitation are inextricably linked
and that his own personal relationships have followed the same road.
